Scottish Golf Tourism Week March 2025
The Chester Hotel Aberdeen.
Sunday the 16th of March approximately 6pm was another ordinary day. Myself and my good lady Sharon, were ready for our usual hard working weekly routines, based around work, family and hopefully a little break at the end of the week where we had planned to take a drive North and enjoy some time for us.
Out of the blue I receive a call from Emma at The Scottish Golf Tourism Week and awards team. “Hi Kenny, we have had a last-minute cancelation, would you like to attend”
My heart skipped a beat, and two emotions started pulsing through my veins. One of delight with the thought of the opportunities and the other was fear with the thought of the last-minute payout of potentially hundreds or thousands of pounds.
It was an opportunity I couldn’t refuse, and I said yes immediately. Emma sent me through the list of attendees. It was a massive and daunting list of premium top suppliers and I literally could not wait to get in the room. But still in the back of my head I was thinking this is going to cost me a fortune, can I do this.
The next day I speak with Emma in the morning, and I ask the question, Emma how much this is going to cost me. To which the reply comes back, “Kenny there is no cost for tour operators. Also, would you like to play the golf days, Trump Aberdeen or Royal Aberdeen.
So I say, the accommodation is free ? the golf is free ? the hospitality is free ?
Yes, says Emma, your all good. We will see you on arrival.
Now Sharon springs into action, I think she was worried as I was that it was going to be too expensive for us to attend and has now embraced the fact that our planned trip north for relaxation is turning into a business opportunity. Frantically organising bags, clothes, ironing, work, she is in her element and we are both full of excitement and in trepidation as the next day we are in action. Taking the floor in The Biggest Hospitality meeting in Scottish Golf.
We arrive at The Chester Hotel in Aberdeen nice and early and park our shiny new Golf Tour Bus right outside the front door in the car park. The staff at The Hotel were fantastic and literally couldn’t have been more helpful. The take us to the reception where we meet with Emma and her diligent team.
The next three days I would describe as inspirational, educational, fun, exciting, exhausting.
The sheer volume of appointments was breath taking and literally you were going from Private Jet providers to Baronial Estates, to Whisky Clubs, to incredible Golf Courses, then back then back again, then back again and again and again. The amount of total class experiences and locations on display was brilliant.

The amount of passion and effort that the Suppliers had put in was more than professional, it really felt that they loved what they were doing and what they represented.
The final day was a busy morning again of appointments then an extremely leisurely round of Golf at the wonderful Newmarcher Golf Club, then on to the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards Ceremonies. Poor Sharon my trusted companion and Transport Manger had blistered her feet so badly from the frantic moving around between appointments, she could hardly walk. It's part of the job people don't see, but to say she suffered for the cause would be accurate.
